Contact and crisis support for carers

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT)

The team can provide support for Herts residents who are experiencing a mental health crisis, need some mental health support or just want to talk on:

  • Freephone Single Point of Access (SPA) on 0800 6444 101 or
  • NHS 111 and select option 2 for mental health services
  • If they are seriously ill or injured, dial 999 for the emergency services.

Herts residents of all ages, including carers, GPs and other professionals can contact our 24/7 Single Point of Access (SPA) Mental Health Helpline team at any hour of the day or night, 365 days a year.

Services for Carers 

  • Carers in Herts  - offers free advice, information and support to carers of all ages and backgrounds. Find out more about their services, carers passport discount card and carer's events.
  • Rethink Mental Illness Charity - contact Jonathan.Clack@rethink.org to find out what carer courses/groups are offered locally to you. Rethink Companions Carer service - Companions Carers support offers one to one advice and signposting on all carers issues and the opportunity to attend the “Caring and coping” course.
  • Carers Trust - The Carers Trust is a charity in the United Kingdom, whether you need local support, financial assistance, or legal guidance, they are there to give the right support for carers. Caring for someone with a mental health condition.

New Leaf Recovery and Wellbeing College 

In our Carers: change, acceptance, and your wellbeing course, we will explore the personal impacts of a caring role and the importance of acceptance, hope, and self-care. You’ll also learn practical coping skills to manage your wellbeing whilst supporting another person. 

 

Rethink Mental Illness

Rethink: Caring and Coping 6 week course, covers the following:

  • Wellbeing for carers
  • Carers rights
  • Carers assessment/benefits
  • Carers breaks.
